Knowing, Learning, Wanting to Know More!

I know that African masks and artifacts were key essentials in the history making of were the first people were found. The decay and tools they used to make them tell a story without words. I learned that Traditional art is the basic of all African arts. They are the basic tools used in ceremonies, community rituals, and they are always made to resemble or tell a story abouta human's life or animal characteristics. However, Contemporary art, it isn't as personal. In Contemporary African art, the art portrays a global view and focus on world wide interpretations. What I would like to have learned was more from the Traditional African art because it was interesting reading about how craftly Afrcans were. It showed exactly how smart they were to even create designs and get tools prepared to make such complicated artifacts.

3rd person "Persuit of Haapyness"

Jay had been watching Chris Garner for months standing outside trying to catch a break. Then one day, he got it, so he thought. He showed up to the interview with an old beat up dingy muscle shirt, some denim jeans and a paint covered jacket. He walked in the room and from the minute he spoke, he simply told the truth. He stated that since he had arrived, he tried to come up with an excuse for his appearance."Truth," thought Jay.Although Jay seemed to be giving him ground, his boss looked pretty uninterested. Next thing Jay knew, his boss was laughing and it interrupted his thoughts enough to make him listen.

He heard his boss ask Chris, "If I gave a man a job who shows up to an interview with no shirt on, what would you say?" His boss' face looked serious soon after the question.

Then Chris replied,"He must have had ona nice pair of pants."The room filled with laughter. jay's face lit up, he was so relieved tha Chris found an answer to that question that didn't make him look like an a-hole.

80 Word Dash

She is an African American. She's standing with all of her life beside her.Her mop, dust brown and mud black with the stains of floors she cleaned. Her broom, just as worn out. She stands in the best clothing she coild find in her closet. her eyes looking into the future that dims her glasses. The flag is her backround demonstrating that she is a U.S. citizen. No matter what her social class may be, she stands firm demanding to be equal.

Through The Years

2010: I remember everything about this year. My homeroom teacher is Mr. Cleaves and I have 5 bestfriends: Eboni Barksdale,Alexis Wright, Kira Newsom, Qualissa Johnson, and Bria Jordan. We love Plies and the song of the year to us is "I'm Awesome". The movie of the year is 'This Is It' a Micheal Jackson film dedicated to his death. I remember this year mostly from Ms.Polk getting fired. I'm going to miss her. All the girls wear head beenies now and the boys have it bad for sagging. That's diguisting.

2009: My 10th grade year, i was in Mr. Banks class for homeroom. I only had 2 bestfriends then, Kira Newsom and Eboni Barksdale. The best movie I saw that year was 'I Can Do Bad All By Myself'. Everybody was into big purses and mow hawks. It was so crazy. I remember last year because of the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) trip to Florida. We had so much fun on the beach and at the Math competition and then, Gucci vs. LiL Wayne was all they listened to so we had a party almost every night. Also, history was made this year, Obama was inargaurated into the white house. He became our 44th president.

2008: I loved my 9th grde year. I didn't have to go to a class for 2 whole periods because we had a gym session. It was so fun just running around, dancing and hanging out early in the morning. I remember that year because I had 3 people that I really called my friend: Kira Newsom (again), Tabitha Flournoy, and Ashley Smith. At one point, we did practically everything together. I remember going to see my future husband john Cena in his first acting role as a marine in his own movie, 'John Cena the Marine'. I remember everyone having those red and black Dickies back packs. That year is unfogetable because of the NSBE trip also. I went for free because my friends Sherman and Ariel and I won a science fair that got us the money. We ate good every night.

2007: Well, we're going back a little bit futher. 8th grade was something else. My first year here at M.A.S.E. and boy was everything different. In the morning after breakfast, we had to go in the auditorium and read books. That was when I met my bestfriends Kira newsom, Tabitha Flournoy, and Ashley Smith. We didn't click right off back though. We actually didn't like each other but of coarse we got over ourselves. We took a trip that year to see 'The World Trade Center'. It was a movie about 9/11 and planes crashing into the Twin Towers. back then, it was all about love songs. My friends and I loved this group called Cherish and all the boys were getting into Chris Brown's style. That's when boys started wearing skinny legs with the girls. I remember that year the most by the 8th grade prom. It was the end of Junior High and we were going to be in high school!!! Can you say excited?

2006: Mrs. Visor was my homeroom teacher. She was also my math teacher that year. She was quit a character. That year I was suprisingly pretty cool with everybody. I din't have any real problems until the end of the year. Madea was a big hit as far as movies go because Tyler Perry was hillarius. That was what we called comedy. My dance team and I dance off of the Ciara CD and that was basically where our music came from back then. I think the Jordan backpacks were the style and forces. If you didn't have forces, you had no friends. Now to the most memorable part of the year. I got into my first school fight. It was akward but I mean I got tired of people trying me because I was so little. Well, they after that day.

2005: I had Mrs. Visor once again as a homeroom teacher. she was also my reading teacher that year and my sister's math teacher. then I was so shy I only had one friend: Crystal Warren. We were both into scary movies so when 'Boogie Man' came out, we rushed to the theatre. T-Pain was a hit along with Ying Yang Twins then because they had the oerfect mix of dancing music. "I'm Sprung' by T-Pain had the Ying Yang Twins though. I remember that year because I had a head injury at school and got amnesia. I was s afraid and it was so crazy. Everybody was all in my face asking me if I remembered them and just making feel uncomfortable. Also, that was a devastating year for the victims of Hurricane Ktrina. It was sad especially since my little brother and little sister's father was living in New Orleans at the time. I'm glad he made it for their sake.

2004: Oh my gosh...I had Mrs. Sally Meyers as a teacher and she was ythe worst thing to happen to mankind. This lady harrassed me up until the last moment in her class. When I did something positive, she would try to discredit me by making me feel bad about my accomplishment or pointing out a useless mistake. When I won the oratorical contest, she just had to make it school wide known I was late getting to the bus. I was 10, did they really expect me to wake myself up? Anyways, I had a best friend that help me through that and she was Dinesha Jones. She was the reason why I didn't push Mrs. Meyers off a cliff.Speaking of her, when I went to her houde, we loved to listen to Usher. his CD was new then and we could just pick a song for the mood and lay on her bed for hours. Also, the news of that year was how did Bush win over Kerry. Well, how did he 'steal' the election.

2003: My memories are getting vaguer and vaguer as I go down but I'm going to see if I can do this. I came to Memphis hat year because of the war and my father lived here. I started going to Hanley Elementary and I was in Mrs. Withers' class. I met Dinesha when I was being picked on for the clothes I wore. She was the only one with a nice word to say to me. I also remember the movie'Radio' because I compared myself to him on numerous occassions when I was being left out or made fun of for being different. I joined the ballet that year and I realized I had a gift for spaking. The ballet recital was Cinderella and I killed it. I mastered my leap in that recital. I felt so good.

2002: WoW!!! I'm really losing memory here. I don'treally rememner much. I was in Pennsylvania I think. We were in a communiy. I remember having one television that all the kids shared. I liked the shows that the boys watched especially wrestling so I was always an out sider to every one else. I saw 'Lilo and Stitch' for the first time and Disney channel all together. I remember a show called 'Braceface'. We didn't listen to anytrhing but Old Skool music alot because my mom never was into hip hop. I remeber going to school with alot of white people and I don't remember much else.

2001: This is way back in the past. This year revolved around around John Cena coming to World Wrestling Entertainment WWE. I was so excited. I had never seen the energy, the skills, nor the stamina he displayed. I was so amazed watching him fight for the first time. I washooked after that dark, crowded April night. I immediately became a fan and joined online when I got the cahence. I can't even imagine wrestling without him now. The only other thing that I can say took my focus was 9/11. My dad disappeared that day and I never cried about it. I never gave up hope that he would come home. I prayed every night for years and I'm glad God heard me because I got my dad back on Christmas Day 2006 in the 8th grade. I shed my first tear that morning. I remeber those two things most. I was a friendless littl egirl with nothing but time.

2000: Now to the year I never thought I would get to. I had a nanny named Ms. Putnam until I moved in with my Aunt Lisa for a while. She had a daughter named Trevona and we spent days playing and riding our bikes and eating all the junk food we wanted. Then one day, my mom picked me up. I had a step father and my mom had a house. Her new husband was a pastor so gospel was all I heard at that time. I don't remember ever going anywhere but church. I don'tremeber being in school that year. We had alot of DVDs though. We watched alot of movies and I remember my mom actually getting up and cooking breakfast. We woke up to the smell of pancakes or rice and biscuits or something. I don't recall events that were memorable but I do know what I miss....I miss my mom.

*Simile Poem*

Love is like hope flaring up inside
It can be strong enought o make you scream
It could be weak enough to let you let them get away
Love is like a tree wih full thick branches
It could be cut down limb for limb
Or it could grow stronger as time pass
Love is like the smell of success
You feel accomplished and proud
Or if it is false, it eats you up inside
Love is Passionate
No matter what is said or done, it is not lost
No matter how it began, love is invincible if true
Love is like hope flaring up inside

A&P STORY FROM QUEENIE'S point of view

We we sitting by the pool relaxing when mymother asked my friends and I to go to the store for her. She wanted us to take a 10 minute ride for a 49 cent can of Fancy Heering Snacks. I was so upset. My friends and I arrived at the store and realized we hed nothing to put over our bathing suits. I told Chelle and Toni to justget out and get it over with.

"I don't want to. What if people stare at us?" whinned Chelle. She was a little chubby but had a nice shape in her swim suit. She had on plaid bermuda shorts so Toni and I didn't understand why she was acting so enbarrassed. Maybe because she had a little extra in the front. I don't kno for sure.

"I don't know why you are complaining." said Toni. "You have on more clothes than Pam and I put together. The quicker we go in, the quicker we get out. We are only getting one item so it won't be that bad. We're not shopping or anything."

We got out of the car and made their way toward the self sliding door.As we got closer, Toni's insecurities started to kick in. She too had began to notice people staring at them through the corner of their eyes. But she kept walking. As we walked through the door, we felt a cool breeze slide between our faces. The store was cold and everyone in it was colder. Women with house coats looked at us jealously, men in their forties looked us pervertedly. We all began to rethink our decision.

We walked over toward the bread ignoring the looks we were getting. We all tried to hurry up and look for the Fancy Herring Snacks but could'nt find them. We saw the guys at the counter looking at us so we didn't want to ask them were it was. We kjust strolled right past them and went to the meat counter. We asked the butcher if he knew were we could find it and he pointed us in the direction. We politely walked off.

"I got it." I said.

"Well let's hurry up and get out of here," said Chelle.

We were looking for a counter to go to and between the two that were open, we decided to go to the one with the youngest looking person because we didn't want to get hit on by an older guy. Plus sme man went to his line with like six jars of pineapple juice.

I handed him the jar. He touched my hand. Then he said, "49 cent."

I reached into my suit and gave him the monbey. Then some old guy came into our face yelling "This isn't a beach".I told him my mom sent us and he just kept going at it. I really didn't care. I was waiting for the cashier to give my change and when he handed it to me, we left.

I got into the car, called my mom and told her to never send me to the store for her again. Then, my friends I drove off.

The Situation

This is what happens when a historical figure, literary character, and a pop culture come into aquantence with one another:

"No more war, no more war," the crowd chanted walking in a ircle in front of The Capitol building. Amongst this group was this 6'4 built cocassion male with dust brown and blonde hair and deep blue eyes. He was drinking a cup of water when Okonkwo, a blood thirst Native, approached him and smacked the cup out f his hand.

"What is your problem?" asked John Cena, the 6'4 blonde haired man."If you want some, come get some."
